Limited opportunities and access to information often become a problem in the development of SMK in the regions. Conditions that are actually not healthy for the development of education, especially in the West Sumatra region. It takes an active role from all elements so that equitable distribution of education quality can be achieved. Padang State University through the Community Service program is here to provide solutions so that the target of educational equality can be achieved. On this occasion the Community Service Program raised the theme “Training on Fuel Injection System (EFI) for Teachers of SMK Mitra Payakumbuh” which was carried out by the PKM team consisting of Drs. Bahrul, Amin, S.T, M.Pd, Drs. Martias, M.Pd and Wagino, S.Pd, M.Pd.T and Wanda Afnison, S.Pd, M.T. This activity stems from the communication between the Head of SMK Mitra Payakumbuh Fitra Yanto, S.E, and the PKM Team leader Wanda Afnison, S.Pd, M.T. Limited facilities and teacher information related to fuel injection system (EFI) material are the background of this theme.
In the initial design, this activity was only attended by SMK Mitra Payakumbuh, but along with the implementation process, it has received a pretty good response from schools around Payakumbuh City. With various considerations, this program also involves teachers of SMK N 1 Kec. Luak, Kab. 50 Cities chaired by Mr. M. Faizul, S.Pd as the Head of the TKR Department at SMK n 1 Kec. Badger.
The first day of activities was opened by the head of SMK Mitra Payakumbuh which was attended by participants and the PKM team. In his speech he was very grateful for the PKM Program. He emphasized that “we” Schools in areas with all our limitations really need guidance and guidance so that they can catch up, especially in the field of EFI fuel systems. In addition, he added that the limitations of practical support equipment also often hamper PBM in schools, where to carry out Competency Examinations, schools have to borrow equipment from official workshops and other schools.
Opening of Community Service Activities
The service activity material includes understanding the EFI fuel system series, identifying “trouble shooting” damage to the EFI fuel system series, testing EFI fuel system components and sensors, using scan tools and testing vehicle emissions using a four gass analyzer. The activity began with a theoretical briefing provided by the PKM Team resource person, Mr. Wagino, S.Pd, M.Pd.T.
Discussion atmosphere
The warmth of the discussion and the many questions from the training participants illustrated the high enthusiasm of the participants in participating in the activity. This is presumably because the training materials they really need have not yet been obtained due to limited access and school facilities.
After the material was finished, the activity continued at the TKR SMK Mitra Payakumbuh workshop. In the practicum session, PKM participants practice the material that has been taught directly at the engine stand that has been prepared beforehand. In the practicum, the participants were also provided with Joob sheets and direct assistance by PKM team members and students who were deliberately involved in this community service activity.
Training atmosphere
From the results of the evaluation conducted by the community service team, there was a significant increase in the understanding of teachers in the material for the fuel injection system (EFI). Especially the material related to the use of test equipment such as the scan tool and four gass analyzer. The limitations of the equipment they faced were at least overcome during the training process. We, from the community service team, really hope that the school will follow up on the limitations of this practicum equipment so that the training material obtained by the participants can be developed and applied completely by the teacher in teaching.
At the end of the activity, our community service team received many requests so that this activity could be continued in the following year so that their competencies were continuously updated and developed so that their schools could compete with schools that had studied and developed the fuel injection system (EFI) earlier. . This is our motivation as a service team to continue to learn and share.
